The purpose of Critical Illness Insurance is to provide a lump sum if you are diagnosed with a serious or critical illness. The policy document will detail a list of the illnesses that the insurer defines as “critical”.

You can view a typical list of such illnesses by clicking here.

After being diagnosed with a “Critical Illness” you may well survive for many years. During that time your income may be severely reduced and the financial effects on your family could be disastrous!
25% of women and 20% of men are affected by critical illness before retirement age.

Critical Illness Insurance is not the same as Terminal Illness insurance. Terminal Illness is included in most life insurance policies and should not be confused.

Critical Illness will pay out immediately after you are diagnosed with a serious illness (as defined in the list of critical illnesses). Terminal Illness Insurance will only pay out if you are expected to die within 12 months of diagnosis.
